The Bradley Group

Bespoke Aerospace and Compression Springs

The founder member of the Bradley Group of companies, John Bradley and Son (Springs) Limited manufactures bespoke springs, pressings, fastenings and wire forms along with rail infrastructure fasteners.

With a motto of “quality without compromise” John Bradley and Son (Springs) Limited manufacture springs to customer specification, from a drawing or sample within realistic lead times. Progressing orders could not be easier, with the levels of customer service offered by the Bradley Group. One telephone call is usually all that is required for full details of order status. The lean springs manufacturing process is used throughout the whole company, reducing lead times and ensuring maximum efficiency.

Development issues requiring prototypes and/or one offs can be accommodated subject to conditions, utilising the skill and expertise of our staff to produce the exact component you require.

An Introduction to Springs

A spring is a flexible component used to store mechanical energy using the principles of elasticity. John Bradley and Son (Springs) Limited can manufacture bespoke can manufacture straight, conical or barrel shaped compression springs with looped, plain or ground ends to drawing or design specifications, out of round or shaped wire. The material can be standard materials or special alloys.

Wire diameter sizes range from 0.005" to 3.750" and our prices are at competitive market rates. Normally manufactured from spring steel, small ones are constructed from pre hardened material but large springs are usually heat treated after fabrication.

Common types of spring

Torsion Springs

Material is twisted around a mandral (a tool which determines interior diameter of the spring) – Can be either Tension springs, designed to extend under load or compression springs designed to become shorter under load.

1. Helical (Coil Spring)
Coil springs With a constant diameter.

2. Conical Spring
With a diameter which reduces along its length.

Leaf Springs

Also known as or flat springs sometimes with many layers used in vehicles as suspension, but other examples can be found in electrical switches.

Sprial / Clock Springs

A coil spring based on rotation

Cantilever

A spring fixed at one end.

Spring Washer

Used to apply a constant tensile force along the axis of a fastener.

Bellville Spring

A disc shaped spring used to apply tension.

The staff of John Bradley and Son (Springs) Limited has the expertise and the tooling to design and manufacture a catalogue size range of pressings and wireforms, including torsion springs and aerospace springs.

The production of precision engineered components to the strictest quality standards. Whether the requirement is for connectors, fasteners, hinges, holding brackets, clips or clamps all our components are fabricated and finished to ISO 9001:2000, AS9100 standards. John Bradley and Son (Springs) Limited is actively seeking NADCAP and enjoy approval from major aerospace and transport companies.
